After the first four years the Support Programme has
met its overall target for every quarter. By December 2008, 298,313
work opportunities as against a cumulative target of 259,867 were
recorded. This means that the Support Programme has met its five-year
targets one year and one quarter ahead of schedule. In respect of the
sector targets, the Infrastructure Sector had shown the greatest
achievements and had significantly exceeded its target.

Like the Support Programme the EPWP also met its target one year and
one quarter ahead of schedule, significantly exceeding the original
target of one million work opportunities (see figure below). Unlike
the Support Programme all sectors in the EPWP met their targets, with
the Environmental Sector performing best.
Figure: EPWP target/actual

The target of the Support Programme was always
closely aligned with that of the EPWP and did contribute to ensuring
that the EPWP target was met and significantly exceeded overall.
