Review of the Venture Learnership Programmes

A team of SME specialists assessed the effectiveness of the EPWP’s
approach to implementing its Venture Learnership Programmes,
identifying strengths and weaknesses of the programme, and
recommending a range of actions to address these in the short to the
long-term. Key recommendations in the short-term included the need for
the DPW to prioritize the VLP’s objectives, to communicate its
successes, secure champions, and refine selection processes. Medium to
long-term actions included the need for sensitizing public bodies,
promoting ownership of the programme, improving mentorship, ensuring
continuity, adopting a sector-based approach, devising exit strategies
for learners, and creating links for them to the private sector, among
