Documenting Community Based Domestic Waste Programmes

This consolidation report identifies and documents case studies of domestic waste programmes that have been implemented in South Africa, in order to increase understanding of their implementation and performance. The report documents best practices based on lessons learned in the individual case studies, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, risks and key success factors. Strategic Review of EPWP Environmental Sector Programmes

An assessment of the aims, viability and potential expansion of the programmes under the Environment and Culture Sector, and identification of specific programmes best suited to expansion. Key recommendations in terms of programme expansion are that, of the eight programmes reviewed, the Social Responsibility Programme (SRP) and the Working for Wetlands programmes should be prioritised for expansion, followed by the Greening the Nation, Working on Fire, and Working for Water programmes, as well as the Investing in Culture Programme. While both the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP) and the LandCare programmes, administered by the Department of Agriculture, are of strategic importance to the country, the lack of capacity to cope with current commitments make them unsuitable for an increased scope at this time...
